Global Surgery

Our ACGME approved Global Surgery rotation gives young surgeons the opportunity to provide surgical care to underdeveloped communities and to share knowledge and expertise with local physicians. During their PGY-3 residency, General Surgery residents will be scheduled for a 1-month clinical rotation at either the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez Hospital in Santiago, Dominican Republic, or at the Kyabirwa Surgical Center in Jinja, Uganda.

Link to find out more.

Flexibility in Training

During their PGY-5 year, Chief Residents have the opportunity to pursue a flexible curriculum, which includes rotations in other specialties, in an effort to better prepare them as they progress to the next stage of their surgical training. With approval of the ACGME and the American Board of Surgery, certain PGY-4 rotations will be designated as Chief level rotations, to facilitate this.

At a given instant, everything the surgeon knows suddenly becomes important to the solution of the problem. You can’t do it an hour later, or tomorrow. Nor can you go to the library and look it up.
